The Audi electric car, the Etron that was produced for the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show, (above) is a 2 seat muscle car that is all electric and uses electric motors mounted in each wheel to give an astounding performance to the car... All together, the 4 motors generate 313 horsepower and 3319 foot pounds of torque, all while being driven in a manner that provides maximum traction and handling performance by the use of Torque Vectoring, a proprietary Audi technique... The car can do 0 to 60 mph ( 100km/h) in 4.8 seconds and from 37 to 75 mph in 4.1 seconds. All provided by a battery pack that provides 52 kw hours that gives 154 miles of range, and can be charged in 6 to 8 hours at 220 v... The company believes that electric cars are not yet ready for prime time... There is much work to do before that time but the Etron electric car is helping to design cars for the future... Update on the Etron 10/20/09... Audi is about to anounce an EV R8 version of the Etron, renaming it the same as it's sister car the R8, which is an internal combustion engined car... The story is brought about because the Etron took the Frankfurt auto show by storm, and the bottom line is that Audi realised that the EV is very trendy right now, with a lot of major companies working on EV's... The EV R8 will use the Etron layout of 470kg Lithium ion battery and will provide power for the 4 wheel mounted 300hp with 4500nm of torque electric motors...
