Electric Cars? Electric Vehicles Are Cool...Electric Cars are Cool... And currently, the HOT topic on TV and in the news... Because they create low or zero emissions, and they are reasonably noise free at slow speeds, and they sound like a turbine on the highway, the sound is totally electric and really cool... Fuel cell cars are fully electric too and are the news topic of the minute... Now in a lot of cases, you would not even know that a car is an EV just by looking at it, but you will know if you get in one, as they are silent until you push the accelerator pedal... If you open the hood, you will find that instead of a load of pipes, there is a load of wire... You will see an Electric motor and the motor controller, and in the trunk, there is a battery pack... And that's it... Otherwise it may look and even sound like a normal car, because of the sound system simulating the sound of a V8 or V12... But performance wise, you will notice a big difference, because most electric vehicles are far better performers when it comes to acceleration from a standing start... Also the cost to run the car is significantly reduced... Because you no longer have to pull in to a gas station to fill up, depending on the kind of car you have, you may have to simply plug it in to recharge it! The total cost of running an electric vehicle has to be figured with the replacement cost of batteries, which will eventually wear out... Cars like the GM Volt are stated to have a 10 year battery life, so if you keep the the car for ten years, a replacement battery pack will be required... But by that time, the cost of packs will be significantly less simply because of advances in battery technology and mass marketing... Because the electric vehicle will take over from internal combustion... That's my prediction!
